Our work has been recognized: We are already part of Biosphere!

After years of work following our style and way of working focused on promoting responsible tourism, we have been awarded! We are very excited that the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) has accepted us after meeting all its requirements for joining Biosphere, which have improved our service to make it completely sustainable.

We leave you with this article by Hosteltur about the entities that have joined the program:

“A total of 56 tourist companies in the city have obtained the Biosphere distinction this week. This seal recognizes “those tour operators who are committed to responsible and respectful management of the environment, culture, working conditions, gender equality and social and economic return”, according to Turisme de Barcelona. There are already 106 companies in the tourism sector in Barcelona recognized as Biosphere entities and 80 more have started the process to join in the coming months.

The Councilor for Tourism and Creative Industries, Xavier Marcé, highlighted the commitment of companies at a time “that requires tourism management to be involved at the highest level” and thanked the involvement of the participating entities when “of further assess the specific weight that sustainability should have in tourism

“With this crisis, we have the opportunity to win the story of tourism and come out stronger if we are to seek responsible tourism”

For the president of Turisme de Barcelona, Eduard Torres, “this is an area in which from now on it will no longer be voluntary, but we will all have to turn together to excel and be a benchmark in sustainable tourism”

“With this crisis, we have the opportunity to win the story of tourism and come out stronger if we are to seek responsible, value-added tourism,” adds Torres.

“Also from the sector we will have to advance in this direction to reduce negative externalities so that this tourism has a positive impact on a sustainable and sustained model,” he points out.

This program was launched last year.

The companies adhering to this initiative must comply annually with a series of phases and actions that lead them to exceed the sustainability requirements, included in the Good Practice Manuals.

“Each company has a manual appropriate to its activity subsector and receives training and support throughout the process,” explains Turisme de Barcelona.

“Given the situation arising from COVID19, and in order not to stop the process, training sessions are being scheduled online, with a high interest from companies to participate,” adds the entity.

Furthermore, “adherence to the Barcelona Tourism Sustainability Commitment is compatible and complementary with other actions that entities develop or can implement (certifications, labels …) and is covered by the tourist tax, thus becoming free for companies and entities.”
